AuditionS

Auditions for our Fall 2024 semester will be held on August 25, 2024. If you can't make this date, other options are available for in-person and virtual auditions.

We invite all interested new and returning members to sign up for a 15-minute private audition with our Artistic Director, Lisa Holt. You will be asked to sing a familiar song (e.g. Happy Birthday or the National Anthem), prepared piece of music, and/or scales.

Please email our Chorus President to express your interest, ask questions, or schedule an audition. You can read more about membership details below.

We look forward to meeting you!

  • "For me, being a part of SoCo Women’s Chorus means being part of an inclusive artistic community that is supportive of women, of LGBTQIA+ folks, of folks who are seniors, students, people of all ages. I’ve learned so much from the people around me, from all of their differences and expertise. Whether you are 18 or 80, being a part of SOCO means challenging yourself and celebrating the diversity of who we are."

  • “SoCo Women's Chorus truly embodies the spirit of Austin! Beautiful voices, a great sense of community, and their performances have always felt like a warm hug on a cold winter's night.”

-Steven Myers, Technical Director, Ballet Austin

  • "SoCo women’s chorus for me over the years has been a way to experience music with good friends, to collaborate with amazingly talented people, and to participate in and contribute to the Austin cultural arts scene."

  • "From the very first meeting I was hooked…This group challenges me without discouraging me. I’ve really grown as a singer since joining the chorus…This group of women is so friendly and welcoming. It feels like home to me now."

    -Chorus Member

  • "From the moment I walked into the SoCo Women’s Chorus rehearsal to the end of our time together, it was clear that I was with a family of gifted and committed musicians. The beauty of their tone, integrity of their artist intentions, and commitment to the whole rather than to self was sincere…This is one fierce and passionate ensemble led by one of equal temperament!"

-Dr. Joey Martin, Associate Dean & Director of Choral Activities, Texas State University

  • "To me, SoCo Women’s Chorus means joy, purpose, and community. I look forward to every rehearsal and concert."

  • "I came to the chorus at a particularly difficult time in my life. But going back to music, going back to singing, and developing strong and supportive relationships with the women of the chorus got me through that and made my 9 years with the chorus some of the best of my life. I was challenged to grow musically and vocally."

    -Chorus Member

  • "The SoCo Women's Chorus is a place where I found my second home amongst women from all parts of life coming together to celebrate music and each other. It was a joy accompanying these women singing such diverse pieces from Spanish to Irish to gospel to Radiohead! I am grateful for their continued passion for cultivating sisterhood, spreading happiness and healing those around them through song."

-Casie Luong, former Principal Accompanist, SoCo Women's Chorus

  • "I’ve never found a group of women anywhere else that have been so caring and supportive. Everybody is truly, truly in touch with the community and are constantly just trying to share beauty with their voices."

Membership Details

We can’t wait to welcome you as a valued member of the SoCo Women’s Chorus community!

  • We welcome singers of all gender identities with voices in the treble range - sopranos and alto. If you have any questions about how your voice or identity will fit into our chorus, please get in touch so we can support you.

  • We love supporting members with a wide range of accessibility needs. Please get in touch if you have questions and requests. We have significant experience supporting blind and visually impaired singers.

  • We are a community chorus made up Austinites who love to sing together and for our community. Our singers have a wide range of training, from first-time singers and chorus members to those with professional experience. Although helpful, you do not need to know how to read music to sing with us!

The following logistics help keep our organization running smoothly. They are the expected of all members when you register to sing with us for a semester:

  • Commit to singing for a full semester. Our Fall semester typically runs August – December and our Spring semester typically runs January – May.

  • Attend all weekly rehearsals and sectionals. Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings. Sectionals are held on Sunday afternoons for the first 6-8 weeks of each semester.

  • Attend a Saturday retreat that typically takes place halfway through each semester. The retreat offers a wonderful opportunity to thoroughly rehearse each piece and also bond with our singing sisters.

  • Pay membership dues of $200 per semester, which includes all music. A set number of dues exemptions are made for those who would like financial assistance. Please contact our Chorus President to learn more.

  • Download sheet music from members website. Some members opt to print out music, while others view using digital devices.

  • When you join our chorus, we hope you will take an active part in our growth, outreach, and community service.

We are honored that our members give their time, effort, and voices to the SoCo Women’s Chorus each season. We can’t wait to have you among us!
