SoCo Sings on SoCo!
Right after our community performance at the Central Austin Library, we’re heading back to our roots down on South Congress Avenue. Did you know that our chorus was founded on Monroe & South Congress? It was!
When founding Artistic Director Janey Hall decided to put together a community women’s chorus, she brought some serious Austin flair to the endeavor. First, she recruited one member, Karen, who was a friend she had met while with The Women’s Chorus of Dallas. They both missed the chorus and wanted to create something similar here in Austin.
Legend has it that Karen rented a portable amp and microphone, grabbed Janey, and they strolled over to the bustling SoCo. They set about singing, chatting, and recruiting. After one afternoon, a very memorable impromptu performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody”, a Craigslist post, and some coffee shop flyers, they had over 55 auditions for that original chorus.
So we’ll be honoring our origins by walking around and informally singing our hearts out somewhere between there and Guero’s for a bit. Times and locations can’t be guaranteed…but margaritas are definitely on the menu at some point.

Sing Together ATX: The Cranberries "Zombie" Sing-a-long
Ever been curious to try out singing in a choir as a hobby? Miss your high school chorus glory days and want to be able to sing again as an adult? Look no further than Sing Together ATX! Join SoCo Women’s Chorus for a lively evening at a local brewery (specific location TBD) and be part of a group sing-along featuring The Cranberries “"Zombie”.
Under the guidance of our Artistic Director, Lisa Holt, participants will be divided into three sections to learn harmonies and creatively reinterpret this classic track. As a treble chorus, we welcome singers of all gender identities with voices in the treble range - soprano and alto. (The higher parts!) Lower voices (tenor and bass) are welcome to join the fun if you’re down with singing falsetto! The more the merrier.
Cap off the evening by performing for the entire brewery audience!
Event time is subject to change. Ages 18+.
