The wonderful women of SoCo Women’s Chorus offer our heartfelt thanks to all those who made donations to our organization during the Amplify Austin Day Of Giving 2018 on March 1-2.
We set and achieved our goal of $6,000!
Stay tuned for announcements on how these funds will further our efforts to bring beautiful music to our community.
We are grateful to an anonymous donor who matched our first $1,000, which insured we had the funds to distribute our annual Melody Claire Hall Voice Scholarship. Then, Great American Smiles (a wonderful Austin business) surprised the chorus by generously donating the additional $2,500 needed to reach our goal!
Thank you so much for your generosity.
As I approach my 65th birthday (in 10 days, but who’s counting?), I am finding myself thinking of my life and just how good it’s been! Sure, there have been some absolutely horrible events in my life, but the BIG PICTURE is pretty remarkable. I know I have been fortunate!
And of course, I’m making plans for the last chapters of my life (I realize how hilarious that is!) as I am a control freak who wants things “just so”. (I also realize how hilarious THAT is!)
This chorus has been the 3rd greatest gift of my life (the first 2 being my children…surprise!) and I make no secret of just how full of gratitude I am. My personal goal since the inception of SoCo Women’s Chorus has been to stay with this chorus for 10 years (with the kind permission of our wonderful Board Of Directors). We are now in the 2nd half of our 6th season and strangely, I feel the end of my tenure fast approaching! (Four years is not a long time when you’re almost 65, I’m discovering!) There are concerts to plan (I have planned the next two ~ our 7th season! ~ and have ideas for various concert themes through 2020. I love the planning aspect of this “job”. So that means I have 112 more songs (give or take a few) to select. That number seems so small. I want us to sing ALL the songs!
I guess I’m waxing nostalgic over the future, if that’s possible. And my plan is (there I go again, Controlly McControllerson!) to relish and be grateful for every minute, every rehearsal, every concert, every season with this amazing, talented, loving and lovely group of women which was born because I had this intense need to promote women’s choral singing. It has turned out to be even more fabulous than I ever dreamed!
As my Daddy would have said, “You done good, girl.”
Our 6th season is here! There are a lot of changes happening, including our website! As we tweak and finesse, you’ll see some familiar features and some new ones, too! Change is good! And fun! And exciting!
One thing will not change…I will still put two spaces between my sentences. Don’t judge.
Feels Like Home is swiftly approaching! The women are singing their hearts out in preparation for this wonderful, feel-good concert! And a new twist on our concert…the 2nd Act will be a total departure from what you’re used to experiencing! No, I’m not spillin’ any beans. It’s a brand new sparkly website, after all! You’ll have to click on the link for tickets and find out!
One thing that’s the same: we’re having our Silent Auction & Reception following each concert! It’s a great opportunity to accomplish two things:
- Support SoCo Women’s Chorus!!
- Do some holiday shopping!
We hope you’ll join us on December 9th and/or 10th at Ballet Austin’s Ventures Studio Theatre for another fun, poignant and refreshing holiday concert! You’ll get to meet our new Assistant Music Director, Ronnie Hall, and our new accompanist, Shawn Ellison.
I look forward to seeing you there!
